Why March 8th?
On 8th March 1857 women working in clothing and textile factories in NYC fought againt their awful working conditions and low wages but they were “dispersed” by the police. Two years later they formed a union to get some basic rights in the workplace.
On 8th March 1908, there was a march through NYC in which women demanded shorter working hours and voting rights among other things.
No wonder there have been huge advances as far as women are concerned but some more are yet to come.
