To blog or not to blog

24 09 2008

“Oh, no! The teacher likes blogging! I hate computers! How am I going to manage?”

Don’t worry! If you don’t even know what a blog is, let’s start from scratch. Watch this video. I’m sure that even if you are not an ICT expert you’ll see how easy it is to take part in it.

Hope you enjoy it!

I happened to know about this video thanks to Maria Valdés. Thank you Maria, you are always teaching useful things.

ELLLO

A good listener

22 09 2008

Listening comprehension exercises can sometimes be very demanding and even daunting. Can you understand in detail what is said to you even if there is some background noise? Can you understand most radio documentaries or TV news and current affairs programmes? Can you follow the essentials of lectures, talks and reports which use complex ideas and language?

If you sometimes have problems, don’t give up! There are lots of ways to improve. Try these links and enjoy English!

  • Randall’s ESL Cyber Listening Lab: Lots of listening exercises arranged in 3 levels. Choose your level and start working.
  • English Listening Resources: Includes free online news and culture broadcasts, online music, online movies, online radio and more.
  • Sing in English: a page with a huge array of songs. Some are good, some are incredibly awful, but they are there for us to sing along with the one you like (or hate) most. The lyrics are provided.

There are far more resources available. This is for you to start doing some practice.

Problems with vocabulary?

Welcome and welcome back

20 09 2008

A new academic year has just started with new expectations both for teachers and students. Those who attended our lessons last year are already familiar with this blogging experience and you are invited to join us even if you are not coming to school as a student any longer.

For those who are now attending our lessons I want to say that this is an extension of our “normal” classroom. Here you can find links that both me and the students I taught last year think can be useful. We will be adding things to do some extra practice or just to have fun with English, we will state our views and opinions on different topics. In other words, we will get to know one another, and we will be in contact even if you cannot attend lessons regularly.

Using this new tool you can check for important information such as homework and exams whenever you want. As time goes by, our blog will grow up not only with my posts, but also with yours. In fact, what I’m most interested in is your collaboration. I am not an experienced blogger, but what I’m sure of is a blog is something alive that grows up day by day. And that ’s exactly what I want: share this new space with you and let it grow with your contributions.

Although I will not get rid of New Bloggers it will gradually disappear since I will not add posts to it any longer. If you want to have a look at it, there is a link in the BLOGROLL section.
